Night Drive Review: ‘Night Drive’ meets with an accident at the end

The film should be like a drive. Starting from any one point, drive through many ups and downs to reach your destination. It can be long as well as short, there should be only one condition that there should not be any kind of accident in the whole way. If this is achieved, then the audience will definitely like the film. The Malayalam language thriller film “Night Drive” released on Netflix is ​​a story of one night, but as the film starts moving towards its end, it meets with an accident. Had this accident been avoided, the credibility of the film would have increased, but commercial compulsions must have been there, otherwise any Malayalam film would not have been absurd. Despite its inconsistencies and flaws, Night Drive is a decent thriller where the suspense for a long time keeps you hooked. Leaving the end, the film can be considered excellent and it can also be seen.

Georgie (Roshan Mathew) is an Uber driver whose girlfriend Riya (Anna Ben) is a news anchor in a channel. One night they go out for a drive and an injured man comes in front of their car. Both take this man to the hospital but his bag full of gold biscuits remains in the car. As the night passes, both of them come to know that the injured man is a minister’s man and the gold in the bag belongs to the minister. A few days ago, Riya had shown this case of gold smuggling on her channel, due to which the minister was going to be jailed, but now the matter turns upside down when Riya and Georgie have gold. Do both of them escape from the clutches of the minister, or do the police trap them considering them guilty, or do the minister get jailed and the corrupt policemen keep on wringing their hands. The film is the story of one night.

There are some small observations in the film due to which the script holds you. Georgie has to go to Dubai so that he can earn money and marry his girlfriend. While running an Uber, he goes to a bakery to get a cake at the behest of a customer and the customer gives him his debit card. Georgie says that I ran away then. The customer’s reply is equally funny – you have a thief face but there is not much money in the card. In one scene, he uses the live location share feature on WhatsApp to give the minister’s location to the policeman. When Happy Birthday Priya is written on the cake, he gives it to his girlfriend Riya, changing the spelling of Priya to Riya. The film keeps you engaged till about 90% but then where this drive goes raw is Georgie’s backstory in which he killed a school teacher because of Riya and was also sentenced to 7 years in jail. After the revelation of this secret, the straightforward Georgie suddenly starts planning to fool the minister and the police and almost succeeds. Georgie, who is scared of police checking at the check post, suddenly starts washing the dreaded goons. This matter was necessary for the film, but the reality that was appearing in the film till then, suddenly turned into the stupidity of a commercial film. A successful journey ended in an accident.

Instead of Roshan Mathew’s acting, his face has to be praised, which just through the expressions of the eyes, sometimes seems to be a very submissive coward and sometimes a very clever and fighting person. His performance in the film Kuruthi released some time ago was excellent and he has done a great job in this film. On his behalf, he gives chocolates to his passenger’s daughter at the cake shop, that scene is wonderful. However, it is difficult to understand his violent tendency in his character. It is not understood that he is a murderer. He is supported by Ana Ben, who is a relatively new heroine, so in some scenes, her facial expressions are not able to come. When Roshan lies to the police that he was driving the car and not Riya, Riya’s facial expressions were not quite correct. Indrajith Sukumaran has impressed a lot in the role of an honest policeman, although the justification of his character seems very weak and dramatic. The rest of the characters are ordinary, no one has done anything special, nor is their acting anything different.

The film is written by Abhishek Pillai and apart from the last glitch, the thrill in the film is tremendous and the viewer has to keep thinking the whole time as to which turn the story will take. It is a big thing for the writer to achieve this. This is the first thriller of the film’s director Vaishakh, before that he used to make family drama films. He has made a good film together with editor Sunil S Pillai. There was no place for obscenity. Hero, despite being an Uber driver, doesn’t go on abusing unnecessarily. These are some good things. The film is good and can be seen.
